For more than 30 years, Aprile has supported EPC contractors, industrial manufacturers and project owners with the transportation of oversized, heavy lift and complex cargo around the world. Today, successful Project Cargo requires far more than transport execution. It requires technical expertise, meticulous planning, rapid decision-making and a global network capable of supporting every stage of the project.

We spoke with Emanuela Ventre, Projects Division Director at Aprile, about how the sector has evolved, what differentiates Aprile in today's market and how being part of the Savino Del Bene Group creates added value for customers managing complex international projects.

Aprile has more than 30 years of experience in Project Cargo. How has the sector evolved and what expertise have you developed over the years?

Project Cargo has changed significantly over the past three decades. Globalisation has made projects increasingly complex, with components sourced from multiple countries, suppliers with varying levels of logistics expertise and critical shipments that must be carefully coordinated to keep projects on schedule.

As a result, our role has become far more strategic. Today, we do much more than arrange transportation. We help engineer the logistics solution, define the most suitable routing and identify the most effective transport strategy from both an operational and commercial perspective.

Over the years, we have built extensive expertise in route surveys, permits, civil works, heavy cargo handling and the design of reliable multimodal transport solutions, even in regions with limited infrastructure. Working closely with EPC contractors, shipowners, ports and local authorities has given us a comprehensive understanding of the entire logistics chain, allowing us to anticipate potential challenges before they become operational issues.

What are the key strengths that set Aprile apart when managing complex industrial projects?

Our Projects Division brings together dedicated Pricing, Operations, Chartering and Technical teams that work in close coordination throughout every stage of a project.

Keeping key activities in house, including vessel chartering, transport engineering, operational and documentation management, as well as HSE and risk assessment procedures, allows us to maintain complete control over critical processes, shorten decision making times and deliver consistent project execution.

In addition, our dedicated industrial projects team ensures a streamlined decision making process, enabling us to respond quickly to changing project requirements while maintaining the high standards our customers expect.

Being part of the Savino Del Bene Group is an important advantage. How does this strengthen your Project Cargo capabilities?

Aprile has specialised in Project Cargo for more than 30 years, building technical expertise that today represents a valuable asset within the Savino Del Bene Group.

This combination allows us to pair our specialist Project Cargo know-how with the strength of a global logistics group ranked among the world's Top 25 freight forwarders by Armstrong & Associates. Through a network of more than 330 offices worldwide, the Group provides financial strength, international coverage, local market expertise and operational resources that support even the most demanding projects.

Depending on customer requirements, projects can be managed under either the Aprile or Savino Del Bene brand, allowing us to offer the most suitable commercial and operational solution while maintaining the same technical expertise, flexibility and customer focus.

Looking ahead, what are Aprile's main objectives for the future of Project Cargo?

We see significant opportunities in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, the green transition and industrial development across emerging markets. At the same time, geopolitical developments continue to reshape global supply chains, making agility and adaptability more important than ever.

Our priority is to continue investing in our people, strengthening our international network and enhancing our technical capabilities. Ultimately, our people are what enable us to deliver reliable, sustainable and tailored logistics solutions for even the most challenging international projects.
